★ What is the difference between D1 and D3 bulbs?

The main difference between D1 and D3 bulbs is voltage: D1 bulbs require 85 volts, while D3 bulbs require only 42 volts. These bulbs cannot be interchanged. If a D1 bulb is installed with a D3 system, it will turn on, but shut off after only 2-3 seconds as the ballast lowers the voltage to 42 volts.

Additionally, D3 bulbs are more environmentally friendly, as they are free of mercury.
