This CCD Camera housing with big inner cavities and accurate dimensions. The cost would be high if cnc machined with solid aluminum. Aluminum Investment casting process can eliminate secondary processes after casting and the reduce tooling costs over several production runs.
Investment casting, sometimes known as lost-wax casting, is a metal forming method known for its ability to produce parts with tight tolerances, complex inner cavities and accurate dimensions.
Investment Casting Process:
1. Produce a master pattern and master die
2.Produce wax patterns
3.Assemble wax patterns into a tree
4.Coat the tree with the first layer of investment material
5.Coat the tree with additional layers of investment material
6.Melt the assembly to remove wax from the mold
7.Pre-heat the mold
8.Pour in molten metal
9.Remove the casting
10.Finishing
CNC machining to meet even tighter tolerances than investment casting allows.
