I-beams are mainly divided into ordinary I-beams, light I-beams and broad flanged I-beams. According to the flange and web height ratio is divided into wide, medium, narrow flange I-steel. Feature

I-shaped steel, whether ordinary or light, due to the relatively high section size and narrow, the moment of inertia difference between the two spindles on the section is large, so it can only be directly used in its web plane bending members or the composition of lattice structural members. It is not suitable for axial compression members or bending members perpendicular to the web plane, which makes its application scope very limited. I-beams are widely used in construction and other metal structures.

Ordinary I-steel, light I-steel, due to the section size is relatively high, relatively narrow, so the moment of inertia of the two spindles on the section is relatively large difference, which makes it has a very limited application range. I-beams shall be selected according to the requirements of the design drawings.

In structural design, I-beams should be selected according to their mechanical properties, chemical properties, weldable properties, structural size and other reasonable choice of I-beams for use.
