Three characteristics of PTC thermistor:

TiOBaTiO3 ceramic is a typical ferroelectric material. Its resistivity is more than 1012Ω.cm at normal temperature, and its relative permittivity is up to 104. It is an excellent ceramic capacitor material. The introduction of rare earth elements such as Y, Nb, etc. into this material can reduce its resistivity to less than 10Ω.cm, and become a semiconductor ceramic material with a large positive temperature coefficient, in a temperature range of several tens of degrees above the Curie temperature. Within, its resistivity can increase by 4-10 orders of magnitude, producing a PTC effect. This effect is a grain boundary effect that only polycrystalline ceramic materials have. Because of this PTC effect, PTC thermistors have been widely used.
